Anti-Aging Skin Care
When should I start using anti-aging skin care products?
As early as your 20s. That’s right. Just as you’re establishing your career or starting a family, think ahead to your 50s. That’s because your body’s production of three key proteins—collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid—wanes early. The pace is slow, so you won’t notice at first. But starting an anti-aging skin care routine before you hit the big 3-0 will pay off later.
Of course, it’s never too late to begin an anti-aging skin care routine.
First Step: An Anti-Aging Serum
Start with an anti-aging serum. Lighter than a cream or anti-aging moisturizer, highly concentrated serums soak in quickly. Give the face serum a few minutes to penetrate before moving on to your anti-aging moisturizer or anti-aging cream.
Second Step: The Eyes Have it
You’ve seen the warning on every moisturizer you’ve ever bought: avoid contact with eyes. That’s because heavier active ingredients in anti-aging face cream can irritate the delicate skin around the eyes. A good anti-aging eye cream is much lighter, but packed with the B Vitamins and peptides that help fight dark circles, fine lines and puffiness.
Third Step: A Great Anti-Aging Moisturizer
No matter your age, it’s important to moisturize. It’s a cosmetic issue, for now, helping to eliminate dry, flaky skin. Applying a great moisturizer, particularly a hyaluronic acid cream or moisturizer packed with retinol and other vitamins, is a great habit to get into every night.
If your night moisturizer contains retinol, make sure to use a moisturizer with at least SPF 30 protection in the morning. That’s because retinol makes skin more sensitive to ultraviolet rays. Don’t forget to use an anti-aging neck cream to help protect your neck and decolletage, too.
An anti-aging skin care routine is a long-term commitment, and it may be tempting to stop when you start seeing results. Unfortunately, your skin will know the difference and rebel over the long term, so stick with it!
