Sofas and Couches

Are you looking to update your living room furniture? Rest easy, Macy’s has the ideal sofas and couches for your living space. Have you ever wondered, what the difference is between a sofa and a couch? Though these terms are interchangeable, a sofa is generally used in more formal rooms, while a couch is something you’d find in a den. Now that we have that sorted, we’re giving you a step-by-step guide that’ll help you find the right sofa. Now, sit back and relax!

How Do You Choose The Perfect Sofa?

Step One - Select A Sofa Type:

Couches & Sofas. Accommodating at least 3 people, your sofa will be the centerpiece of your living space. Since this is an investment piece, we recommend selecting a neutral hue that will stand the test of trends. You can always add pops of color with decorative pillows and throws. And of course, your sofa should be comfy. Whether you’re spending hours binging your favorite shows or entertaining guests, you want to ensure that your sofa is inviting.

Loveseats. Smaller sofas that fit two people are referred to as loveseats. These are used in tandem with your main sofa to provide more seating. If you have a small space, you might want to consider getting a loveseat as your main sofa or you can check out apartment-sized sofas.

Sectional Sofas. Do you want a sofa that can accommodate the whole family or plenty of guests comfortably? Scope out sectional sofas, available in a variety of configurations. For the ultimate lounge experience, you may want to consider sectionals with chaise lounges or recliners included.

Sleeper Sofas. If your guest space is a multi-purpose room, then consider getting a sleeper sofa. For smaller rooms or easy setup, we recommend a futon-inspired sleeper sofa that simply folds down. If you have the floor space to fit a pull-out sofa bed, then go for it.

Reclining Sofas. Are you looking to recreate the movie theater experience in your living room? Take a load off with power reclining sofas. With a touch of a button, you can go from sitting to lounging in seconds. Some of these sofas even include cupholders for your convenience. Watching TV will never be the same.

Step Two – Pick A Material:

Fabric. When selecting a fabric for your sofa, you need to take your lifestyle into account. If you have kids or pets, you’ll want fabrics that are easy to clean, like microsuede. To keep your sofa from getting dirty too quickly, we recommend a darker neutral like gray. For a plush feel, velvet has become a trending sofa fabric.

Leather. If you want to infuse a modern or masculine feel into your living space, then we suggest investing in a leather sofa. Unlike fabric sofas, leather tends to be easier to clean.

Faux Leather. If you want the look of leather without the expense, we recommend faux-leather sofas.

Step Three – Measurements Matter:

Before you commit to buying your new sofa, make sure you have measured your space properly. You might want to consider marking out the dimensions of your intended sofa with tape on the floor. Once the floor is marked, make sure you are still able to walk around your space comfortably.

Styling Tips: While you’re shopping for a new sofa, don’t forget to update your other furniture as well, like coffee and end tables. You might also want to consider new lamps to light up your space.
